Reading a jali from a single block
A photo of one block tells you the shape of the openings, but a wall of them looks different. Curved ribs that end at the edge of one block meet the ribs of the next, so a Petal Jali wall shows full flowers where four blocks meet, and an Opal Jali wall shows a chain of rings and stars.
