Jali brick calculator and pattern wall builder
Enter your wall width and height, choose the joint and one of our 13 jali designs. The builder draws the wall and tells you how many blocks to order, how big the finished panel will be and how much gap is left at the edges.

Build your jali brick wall
Pick a design, enter your wall size and joint, and see the pattern, the number of jali bricks and the finished panel size. Every design is an 8 × 8 inch block.
Opal Jali · 14 × 11 blocks · 10 mm joint
- Across × rows
- 14 × 11
- Blocks in wall
- 154
- Finished panel
- 9′ 9″ × 7′ 8″
- Gap to fill, each side
- 1.4″ / 2.0″
The count uses only whole blocks that fit inside your size. Cutting a jali breaks the pattern, so the leftover space is usually filled with mortar, plaster or solid brick at the edges.
Send this wall for a rateHow the jali brick count is worked out
Every design we make is 8 × 8 inches on the face. The calculator adds your joint to that size, then finds how many whole blocks fit across the width and up the height:
- Blocks across = whole number of (wall width + one joint) ÷ (8 inches + one joint)
- Rows = whole number of (wall height + one joint) ÷ (8 inches + one joint)
- Blocks in the wall = blocks across × rows
- Blocks to order = blocks in the wall plus the extra you chose, rounded up
The finished panel is the blocks plus the joints between them. Whatever is left over, split between the two sides and the top and bottom, is the gap your mason fills with mortar, plaster or solid brick.
Quick numbers for an 8 × 8 inch jali
| Joint | Blocks per sq ft | Blocks per sq m |
|---|---|---|
| None (dry) | 2.25 | 24.2 |
| 6 mm | 2.12 | 22.8 |
| 10 mm | 2.04 | 22.0 |
| 12 mm | 2.00 | 21.6 |
Use these for a rough budget. For the order itself, count rows and columns, because you cannot lay part of a jali.
Plan the opening around the blocks
If the frame is not built yet, size it from the blocks. With a 10 mm joint, 6 blocks across make a panel about 4 ft 2 in wide; 12 blocks make about 8 ft 4 in. Give these numbers to your contractor before the columns go up and nobody will need to cut a jali.
Turning blocks for new patterns
Some designs look different when turned 90 degrees, especially the Camp Jali and breeze block Designs 1, 2 and 11. Tick "turn every other block" in the builder to see the checkerboard version.
When the numbers look right, send them on WhatsApp with your site city for a rate, or read how many jali bricks per square foot for a worked example.

Jali brick calculator: questions
Something not covered here? Call +91-90411-00702 and speak to the kiln team.
How does the jali brick calculator count blocks?
It divides the wall width and height by the block size plus one joint, rounds to whole blocks, and multiplies columns by rows. It then adds the wastage you choose and shows the finished panel size, so you can see how far it is from your opening.
What joint width should I use for jali?
Most masons lay jali with a 6 to 10 mm joint. Thinner joints keep the pattern tight; a 10 mm joint is more forgiving on site. Choose one and keep it the same across the wall.
Can jali blocks be cut to fit?
Cutting through the lattice weakens the block and breaks the pattern. It is better to size the opening to whole blocks, or fill the leftover gap with solid brick or a plaster band at the edges.
How much extra should I order?
About 5% covers breakage in transport and on site for most walls. For small walls under 50 blocks, keep at least two or three spare blocks.
